As a Special Event of the 74th Venice International Film Festival, La Biennale di Venezia presents Casa d'altri, the documentary by Gianni Amelio filmed in Amatrice one year after the earthquake that struck central Italy on August 24th, 2016.
The screening of Casa d'altri, which will take place on August 31st 2017 in Sala Giardino, intends to be an important opportunity to keep alive the perception of what has happened since that day on August 24th.
The 74th Venice International Film Festival will be held from August 30th to September 9th at the Lido di Venezia, directed by Alberto Barbera and organized by the Biennale chaired by Paolo Baratta.
Casa d'altri was produced by Rai Cinema, which had been involved in previous months, as part of a project by Mibact and Anica, in a gesture of solidarity to benefit the population struck by the earthquake, participating in the programming of the "Cinema Paradiso Amatrice" movie theatre.
The General Director of Rai, Mario Orfei, states: "With Rai Cinema, one year after the tragedy in Amatrice, in fulfillment of its public service mission, Rai participated enthusiastically in the production of maestro Gianni Amelio's film, with the aim of not only commemorating an anniversary, but to provide the opportunity through the film medium to reflect upon and share an important project for reconstruction".
The CEO of Rai Cinema, Paolo Del Brocco, states: "Rai Cinema and Bartleby Film have produced the film dedicated to Amatrice and titled Casa d'altri by Gianni Amelio. We would like in particular to thank the City of Amatrice and its Mayor Sergio Pirozzi, for his great humanity and generous help. The initiative is promoted by the Ministry for the Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, in the person of Minister Dario Franceschini, the Regione Lazio, President Nicola Zingaretti, and the Roma Lazio Film Commission. Gianni Amelio has given us an artist's vision of the sorrow and civil consequences that concern us all, photographing the efforts of a people that with great dignity and pride has sought to leave the tragedy of August 24th 2016 behind it, and start from the ruins to restore its wounded identity".
