Now in our 11th season of the High Desert International Film Festival and, from the start, the focus has always been on supporting a sense of community.
During our humble beginnings, we engaged our hometown community in competitions that would help us name the festival; and create the art that would become our award.
This competitive spirit continues in an annual competition to create the poster art that will be the public face of the festival each year. Our local high school art classes participate in this as a graded class project with prizes and accolades. The student inspirations always yield the most breathtaking results—so much so that the efforts of 64 students were on proud display all during the most recent festival.
The heart of this festival was, is now, and will always be, to celebrate the talents of the international, independent, filmmaking community; in support of those visionaries who might be in search of an audience, funding for a project, collaboration with peers or validation of their art.
An artist simply cannot work in a vacuum. There must be an audience to applaud and encourage their efforts or perhaps to let them know that they should take a step back or maybe even start over.
Every season we throw a party and invite the neighbors—and they join us—from all over the world. Consider this your invitation.
Categories: Drama, Comedy, Horror/Sci-Fi, Documentary and Animation. Top awards for each category. In addition, awards will be given out for People's Choice, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Music Score and Best Cinematography
