Julius Ponten
Julius Ponten, co-founder of New Amsterdam Film Company, will represent The Netherlands as Producer on the Move at the Cannes International Film Festival (May 17 - 28).
Ponten quickly established his production credentials with the brilliant and uncompromising feature films Wolf (Jim Taihuttu, 2013) and Rabat (Jim Taihuttu and Victor D. Ponten, 2011) and a series of award-winning documentaries and shorts.
He is currently producing the first feature under the New Amsterdam label. The thriller Catacomb, about football match fixing, is directed by Victor D. Ponten. He is also developing the feature film The East, about the Indonesian War of Independence, with writer/director Jim Taihuttu.
New Amsterdam makes features, documentaries and shorts that are rooted in contemporary (street) culture, and aims for the cinema release of stories that make a positive impact on society.
This is the 18th consecutive Cannes outing for the high-profile networking platform Producers on the Move, organised by European Film Promotion (EFP). EFP and its member organisations have again selected 20 of the most promising European producers to take part in the five-day event (May 19 - 23). Essential requirements for selection are experience in international co-production and a theatrical release outside of the participant's home country.
The exclusive group will enjoy a tailor-made programme of roundtable pitching sessions, one-to-one speed dating, case studies and industry meetings. This will enable the producers to exchange experiences, help create new professional networks and exploit all co-production opportunities.
Previous Producers on the Move from The Netherlands include Janneke Doolaard of Doxy Films (2016), Ellen Havenith of PRPL (2015), Harro van Staverden of Phanta Basta (2014), Marleen Slot of Viking Film (2013), Trent of NFI Productions (2012) and Michael John Fedun of Corrino Media Group (2011).
