TIFF announced today the launch of the Len Blum Residency programme, a new creative development initiative which offers one filmmaker the unique opportunity to live, work and be inspired at TIFF Bell Lightbox. This programme, generously supported by Toronto-based filmmaker and distributor Ron Mann, will host one emerging writer-director at TIFF Bell Lightbox, Toronto’s home for film lovers, for a period of up to three months.
The Residency programme aims to build a nurturing environment that supports the filmmaker in developing their next project. “Fostering new talent is essential to the future of film art and this new Residency programme further enhances TIFF’s objective of stimulating creative growth in filmmaking.
We look forward to welcoming the resident filmmaker into our home at TIFF Bell Lightbox and we’re excited to begin this journey of creative collaboration,” said Cameron Bailey, Artistic Director, Toronto International Film Festival®. “Len Blum is one of Canada’s most celebrated screenwriters of such beloved films as Meatballs, Stripes, and Private Parts. The Residency is our way of honouring his achievements through continuing support, partnership and mentorship.”
The Len Blum Residency programme offers a range of benefits and professional support, including furnished accommodation at the Festival Tower; mentorship from TIFF’s Industry Office, programming team and special guests; script consultations with Len Blum; support from TIFF partners; and access to Industry events at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. Writer-director candidates for the programme will be nominated by established producers, directors and screenwriters within the film industry.
The selected filmmaker will be ready to take the next step in his/her career and have a story idea or script in place to be developed.
The recipient will be announced during the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival (September 10 to 20, 2015).
