Established in 2003, Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival, China (GZDOC) is now China’s sole state-level documentary film festival, with mainly six sections: Competition, Screening, Forum, Training, DocuMart and Industry Networking. In 2014, there were 3054 entries from 85 countries and regions submitted and GZDOC has become one of the most important platforms for global documentary industry exchange and for the promotion of international cultural communication. The establishment of the Golden Kapok Award is to select and recognize the outstanding documentary with a combination of artistic and realistic value. The competition unit reinforces the industrial communications between the domestic and foreign art work. In 2014, GZDOC received more than 3000 entries worldwide to compete for the Golden Kapok Award.
Seven renowned documentary experts from home and abroad, including directors, producer and other professionals will be invited as the international jury panel to preside over the selection of the Golden Kapok Awards’ winners.
DocuMart of GZDOC has developed over the decade and become the most important documentary film market in Asia, showcasing the selected projects of high quality to the audience and potential funders. It offers an effective networking opportunity for the delegates, stimulating the international cooperation in the documentary film industry.
All submitted projects will undergo a selection process. Upon one round of selection, approximately 30 projects will be invited to pitch their projects on the final stage to a group of commissioning editors from major international broadcasters and media groups, as well as other registered delegates.
The Golden Kapok Documentary Cinema has been established for the promotion of excellent international and domestic documentaries, advocating international communications, while at the same time provide an opportunity for Chinese great mass to enjoy documentaries of excellence.
The selected films will be screened in public cinemas in Guangzhou, Guangzhou Library and other culture venues, universities across China, as well as TV Stations and other GZDOC cooperation new media. For the selected films for screening, GZDOC will invite their production teams to Guangzhou for the Festival and provide complimentary registration for one of the representatives of the team.
During the festival, a screening room will be set up in Doc Shop for film watching and copyright trading. More than 20 independent film-watching terminals will provide participants opportunities to watch or search for hundreds of documentaries authorized for the Competition or trading in a comfortable, disturbance-free environment.
Information of the selected Doc Shop films will be included in the handbook of GZDOC 2015. Guangzhou Global International Documentary Festival Culture Investment Co., Ltd is designated as the copyright agent and the dealership should be contracted with the copyright holders. Successful deals through Doc Shop or by assistance of Guangzhou Global International Documentary Festival Culture Investment Co., Ltd., will be charged 10%-15% of the total exchange amount to Guangzhou Global International Documentary Festival Culture Investment Co., Ltd.
