This coming Sunday Filmfestivals in collaboration with CINeol will attend the Goya Awards Ceremony in Madrid, Spain.
Four films mostly have all nominations. Favorite with 18 is Blancanieves (Snow White). Eight years took Pablo Berger to finish this production. A black&white, silent film. Yes, in the meantime The Artist happened…Anyway, it´s a great film and since its premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival (winning Silver Shell for Best Actress and a Jury´s special mention) it has won Premios Forqué, Gaudí,Medallas de Oro CEC,etc…almost everything.
Second with 17, Unit 7, a thriller set in Sevilla during the 80´s. Policemen in action. Great editing, a powerful cast, good reviews and not bad figures in the box office. But the mega hit The Impossible is difficult to reach. Over 30M Euros only in Spain gives it the top 1 ever in the Spanish box office. With an international cast including Ewan McGregor, Tom Holland and Naomi Watts and good options in technical categories and I might say for young Tom.
And the fourth nominee is The artist and the model. Yet another B&W film directed by Oscar winner, Fernando Trueba. A peculiar film shot in French.
There is a joke running here because we have an English, a French, an Andaluz and a silent movie… OK, It only works in Spanish.
This year´s Academy award nominee Naomi Watts, is one of the fighters in the best actress category for her leading role in The Impossible. She will be disputing the Goya to Academy Award winner, Penelope Cruz. None of them are favorites anyway. Bets are for Maribel Verdu and her portrait of the malefic stepmother in Blancanieves (Snow White).
Only one person is calm and relaxed and extremely happy and this is Concha Velasco who already has her Honorary Goya Award at home.
I invite you all to join us in our fiesta. In the meantime please check the photo gallery
