Developing a web series is a great avenue for independent creators to get their work seen, and a new web series exclusive festival, "HollyWeb Festival" (http://www.hollywebfestival.com) aims to honor these creators and their respective series by providing screenings and awards in the heart of Hollywood on March 31, 2012.
The people behind HollyWeb know first hand that web series production can be a full time job. All of the festival directors have extensive experience creating and producing web series, and are aware of the lack of options to showcase their work. Daniel Doherty II, one of the festival directors believes that it is time that web series get their due, "Web series are a legitimate form of entertainment, just as much so as television shows or films. It's time that more people recognize how many quality series are distributed on the internet."
Series accepted to the festival will be screening in Hollywood at Dim Mak Studios (formerly called Cinespace), and will be eligible to win a $1500 cash grand prize at the awards ceremony. Jennifer Doherty, festival co-director relates that there will be multiple chances to win an award, "Each web series will have a chance to win additional cash prizes; we are recognizing various accomplishments including acting, directing, cinematography, writing, editing and music." The festival directors believe strongly in the cash prize element, "We know how much cash means to the web series creator. Equipment rentals, feeding cast and crew, and location permits can cost an arm and a leg for the independent web series producer. We want to give award winners cash prizes so that they can choose how to best use it," says Daniel Doherty II.
The directors are pleased with the positive response they have had so far, "We are very excited to see such quality shows being submitted; both in terms of story and overall production," says Jennifer Doherty. The festival has already begun accepting submissions and will continue to do so through February 15, 2012.
