The Istanbul Film Festival, which celebrated its 15th anniversary this year, has become a true meeting place between east and west. This is reflected in the selection of films, the list of guests and the business-like schedule and in the relaxed atmosphere which reigns supreme, despite it.
The festival runs 15 days, with the first week being a national festival catering to local audiences. The second week, it turns into a fully international event with a competitive programme, an international jury and guests from all over the world. Screening more than 150 films from some 50 countries, the festival is a crowd pleaser attracting audiences in excess of 150,000 admissions in the course of its two-week run.
Apart from a national competition for Turkish films, the fest contains several sidebars.
