A series of Kinepolis-style megaplexes
Bombay/Brussels Group Beautiful, the Indian trading and investment company, is joining forces with Belgium's Decatron, a division of the Bert-Claeys exhibition group, to build a series of Kinepolis-style megaplexes in six Indian cities.
Decatron will provide the know-how to construct the theatres in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bombay, Calcutta, Madras and New Delhi. Ground breaking on all six sites is scheduled for later this year.
In a separate move Decatron, which plans to open its largest megaplex in Lille, France in September, is expected to mount a joint venture with Australian exhibitor Hoyts to construct theatres worldwide.
Hollywood TV producer Stephen Cannell is reported to be joining forces with Universal Studios to make a big screen version of his action-comedy series, The A-Team. Universal have hired writer Richard Hatem, who was responsible for Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, to write an original screenplay.
Los Angeles The television development rights for 1990 hit, Total Recall, have been sold for $1.2 million to DSL Entertainment as part of the auction for assets left over from the bankrupt Carolco Pictures.

New York Capital Cities/ABC and Walt Disney Television have merged their international operations under the banner Disney/ABC International Television. The chairman of the new operation is New York-based Herbert Granath, currently president of ABC's Cable and International Broadcast Group.
Looking to build a strong word-of-mouth before their openings, 20th Century Fox and Buena Vista will offer sneak previews for respectively Edward Zwick's Courage Under Fire (above) and Jon Turteltaub's Phenomenon tonight in Los Angeles and New York. Both films are talked of as possible Oscar nominees in 1997; Courage Under Fire for the performances of Meg Ryan and Denzel Washington and Phenomenon for the performances of John Travolta and Robert Duvall.
Phenomenon is set to open in the US on 3 July, and Courage Under Fire on 12 July.
