PolyGram's revolution

London PolyGram Filmed Entertainment (PFE) has increased its portfolio of filmmaking talent with a first-look three-year deal with UK production company Revolution Films which will produce at least three films for PolyGram, two of which will be directed by Winterbottom (see also Moving Pictures Day 5)

Winterbottom established himself as one of the hottest young directors in world cinema when his debut film Butterfly Kiss premiered in Berlin last year. Revolution Films, which he formed in 1994 with producer Eaton, has also won acclaim for the TV series Family and made for TV drama Go Now.

PolyGram then financed Revolution's Jude in association with the BBC. The film, directed by Winterbottom, produced by Eaton, and starring Christopher Eccleston and Kate Winslet, premiered at Cannes in May this year.

In development for Revolution are Fast Forward, a romantic comedy written by Nick Hornby and The Mayor of Kingdom Come, written by Frank Cottrell Boyce, a western inspired by Thomas Hardy's The Mayor of Casterbridge. Winterbottom is in production on Sarajevo, for Channel 4 and Miramax.

"We believe Revolution will produce films which we will be very proud to distribute, and which will achieve substantial worldwide box office success," said PFE's president of international, Stewart Till, while Winterbottom and Eaton welcomed the deal, saying "PolyGram's commitment to British films and the kind of films we want to make is very inspiring."
