Los Angeles Aurora Productions announced that it is in pre-production on The New World, the life story of Czech composer Anton Dvorak.

The company's president, William Stuart, who served as executive producer on The Rock and played a major part in the film's creation and development, further announced that he has hired the writing team of Turi Meyer and Al Septien to develop feature projects for his independent production company.

The partnership continues Aurora's plans to develop projects for the studios and independent market. The company most recently sold Stephen Molton's novel Brave Talk to New Line.

Sydney Australia and New Zealand proved to be cable-ready over the past weekend as Ben Stiller's The Cable Guy opened in number-one position in Australia to US$1.4 million from 153 screens.

The Jim Carrey vehicle also beat out the competition in New Zealand where its US$223,321 opening on 31 screens was Columbia Pictures' best to date in the territory.
