My Knees were Jumping

Prague was a particularly appropriate venue for last night's screening of Melissa Hacker's documentary My Knees were Jumping: Remembering the Kindertransports.

This deeply moving film throws light on the extraordinary movement of nearly 10,000 children out of Germany, Austria, Poland and Czechoslovakia in 1939, following Krystallnacht.

They were sent by their parents for safety to England, and among them was Hacker's mother Ruth Morley, later an award-winning costume designer in Hollywood.

The film includes newsreel footage of parents at Prague airport saying farewell to their childen. Some of them were expected to attend last night's screening.
