Copenhagen Danish writer-director-producer Thomas Winding has been appointed new consultant of the Danish Film Instute, replacing Jørgen Ljungdalh, who resigns on 1 August.
Winding joined Danish pubcaster DR-TV in 1963, launching an original type of children's programming. He has written more than 25 books for children, but is also credited for a feature film - Revolutionen i vandkanten (1990) - as well as several shorts.
He has also been a teacher at the European Film College in Ebeltoft. "I will be looking for projects which make audiences laugh or cry, and which have the courage to take on important issues," he said.

One immediate knock on effect was a 55% drop in the theatrical box office over the previous Sunday with just 477,000 admissions sold over the week ending 12 June, against the norm of 2.4 million admissions. This despite the "Sommerhit: Kino" campaign, a joint industry effort to reduce the damage from major summer sporting events.
