Los Angeles Brian de Palma's Mission: Impossible, partly shot in Prague, broke a number of opening-day records in its premiere engagements in Hong Kong, Thailand, Korea and Singapore, according to Barry London, vice chairman of The Motion Picture Group, Paramount Pictures.
In Hong Kong, Mission: Impossible opened 13 June, grossing US$319,917 in 32 theatres for a per theatre average of US$12,556 and broke the all-time opening day record for a non-Chinese film.
In Korea, the film opened 15 June to the biggest weekend ever, grossing US$1,067,274 for a per screen average of US$35,576, while in Thailand the film opened 14 June, taking US$708,023 for a per theatre average of US$9,834. The box office take was the strongest opening for UIP in that country.
Singapore, which was the film's first international opening after the North American release, garnered a record breaking US$1,313,166 during its opening weekend and broke the US$2 million barrier after just 11 days. In the US, Mission: Impossible has a cumulative gross of over US$145 million after 27 days.
