Los Angeles Responding to what it calls "unprecedented" exhibitor and audience reaction to its early test screenings, 20th Century Fox has decided to roll out Independence Day a day early on Tuesday 2 July.
The announcement was made this week in Los Angeles by Tom Sherak, senior executive vice president of Fox Filmed Entertainment.
In addition, Sherak said, many locations will be holding special around-the-clock screenings of the film.
"For over a year," Sherak added, "we've been telling everyone that we couldn't wait until the Fourth of July weekend - Independence Day's (initial) release date - and we couldn't be happier that the exhibition community and moviegoing public feel the same way.
It's our hope that the Fourth of July holiday will truly begin with the release of the film on 2 July."
The official world premiere of Independence Day is scheduled for this Tuesday, 25 June, at the Mann Village Theatre in Los Angeles.
