In Draumadísir (Dream Hunters) Icelandic director Asdís Thoroddsen depicts the city life of Reykjavik through the adventures of two 20 year-old girls in "a comedy with plenty of dark sides."
"Everyday existence in Iceland is not at all so idyllic as you may think from our tourist brochures," said Thoroddsen, whose 1992 film Ingalo - a fishy version of Norma Rae - screened in the Critics' Week at Cannes and won her several international awards.
Draumadísir is the story of two friends - one a student, the other an unemployed postwoman - who fall in love with the same man, who runs a company importing cosmetics.
As his enterprise is having serious financial problems, he forges some documents of his former partner in order to avoid bankruptcy.
Thoroddsen, who has directed several teleplays between her two features, shot the film last spring on a ISK 50 million (less than US$1 million) budget. It was domestically released three months ago to favourable reviews.
