Adapted from Bertolt Brecht's classic play by Pavel Finn, Kariera Arturo Uy (The Career of Arturo Uy) is Moscow-born director Boris Blank's fifth feature, following The Jester's Revenge, Shylock, If We Knew and Secrets of the 16th Century Kremlin.

No matter how many bevvies of leggy blondes and gallons of champagne Bertolt Brecht got through during his "exile" in the US, the old Communist's critique of the rise of Hitler remains as sharp and witty as ever.

Arturo Uy is the story of a Chicago fruit and veg packer who rises to become gangster king of the vegetable trade.

As Ui lies, cheats, murders and threatens his way to the top, Brecht illustrates in customary didactic style how Hitler's ascension to power was due to the greed, fear and short-sightedness of others - rather than the traditional, history-book view that it was an economic and political inevitability.
