Fany
Poland,
Karel KachyÀa

Karel KachyÀa, known for his adaptations of novels by Ota Pavel and Josef ·kvoreckù, made his most recent film Fany from the screenplay by JiÞí Hubaã.

The heroine, a mentally disabled 50-year-old, after years spent in the care of her older relatives, finds herself under the watchful eye of her sister JiÞina, a senior consultant.

Fany, however, feels most at ease in the company of animals.

At JiÞina's suggestion she tries to help the verger but she loses even this contact with the human world after the church is burgled due to her naivety.

Despite their problems, these two very different women start to find a common language. JiÞina abandons her reserve and finds in herself greater understanding for other people's feelings.

However, not even this can prevent the tragic accident which befalls Fany.
