PolyGram connexs in Germany

PolyGram Film International (PFI) and German distributor Connexion International have reached a re-licensing agreement whereby The Portrait of a Lady will be theatrically distributed through PolyGram's newly formed theatrical distribution operation in Germany. Jane Campion's film, which receives its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, will be the first title to be released under the PolyGram banner in Germany on 9 January.

Originally licensed by PolyGram to Connexion, with which the company had built up a long-standing relationship, theatrical rights were re-licensed to PolyGram following its decision to establish its own film distribution in Germany. Under the agreement, video and television rights will remain with Connexion.

As PFI president Aline Perry pointed out, the film's release campaign will be orchestrated in consultation with Connexion so we will continue to work together on this exciting film.

We are proud to have this film as the first theatrical release through the newly created film division of PolyGram in Germany, added Haig Balian, managing director of PolyGram Filmed Entertainment (PFE) Germany. The film will be followed, said PFE Germany's marketing director Albert Wiederspiel, by its other Venice entry, Sleepers, and Jude. It's our intention to come to an annual line up of 12-17 films, consisting of PolyGram titles and acquisitions, Wiederspiel added.
