OSCAR ACADEMY SENDS OUT FOREIGN-LANGUAGE INVITES

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences sent out invitations to a record number of 70 countries to submit their top film for consideration for the Foreign Language Oscar for the 69th annual Academy Awards.

Entry forms must be received by the Academy by 1 November, and prints of the film by 18 November. The rules in the Foreign Language Film category are the same as last year and to be eligible for consideration, films must have had their first public showing in a commercial theatre in its home country between 1 November 1995 and 31 October, 1996. The selected films must have been produced with a basically non-English dialogue track in a language of the submitting country. The nominated films will be announced by the Academy on 11 February, 1997.

This year the Academy has added two new territories to its list of invited countries, Albania and Wales.
