Abramtzevo
A country-estate with classic Russian architecture, frequently visited by famous Russian writers and painters.


Kolomenskoye
In south-eastern Russia. This former historical settlement turned into an estate of Russia's Tzars. Now a museum complex with an exhibition of architecture constructed of wood, a belfry and compact cathedral.


Kuskovo
Further south than Kolomenskoye, a country estate of the Counts Sheremetyevo. Now houses a museum complex and a fascinating park, decorated with sculptures and cottages.


Rostov-The-Great
Located 140km to the north-west of Moscow on the banks of Lake Nero. The ancient city has been mentioned in historic documents since 862AD and contains many old and very small churches.


Sergiev Posad
Seventy kilometres north-east of Moscow, this prominent religious and cultural centre is the focus of pilgrimages for Russian Orthodox Christians. Complete with 15th-18th century architectural monuments such as the monastry, theological seminary and academy.


Vladmir
Vladmir is 190km north-east of Moscow. This ancient Russian city dates back to 1108. Among the architectural highlights are the Golden Gate (1158-1164), Assumption (1158-1160) and Dmitryev Cathedrals (1194-1197).
