The Meshcherskies
With The Meshcherskies, Director Boris Yashin, a veteran of Mosfilm, presents a very transparent and sunny drama focusing on a fondly-remembered past. The film combines three short stories - 'Natali', 'Tanya' and 'In Paris' - by Ivan Bunin, (a sort of Russian equivalent of French master storyteller Guy de Maupassant) who emigrated to Paris after the Bolshevik Revolution.
The Meshcherskies showcases a family saga with earthy and authentic characters, who try and retain their dignity in a changing Russia, where the old traditional way of life they know is threatened.
