Although no film market is attached to the fest, the importance of it as a professional event, as was confirmed by Argentine producer Marcelo Itzkoff (Besos en la frente), lies on its functioning as an exhibition and sales point between Latin American and European producers and distributors.
As a result of the 'Spanish Cinema Today' section, Sogepaq International sold seven of its titles, including El dia de la bestia, Tesis and Tierra, to Caribbean Cinemas. Carlos Saura's Taxi received the Best Spanish Film Award.
Following its screening, Lars von Trier's Breaking The Waves was sold to B Zupnik in Argentina.
Another highlight was the tribute to Puerto Rican actor Benicio del Toro (The Usual Suspects and Basquiat) which also received the Audience Prize. Catalina Ribalta
