Selection Commitee

Laurent Roth

Born in Paris in 1961. After studying philosophy, he directed several documentaries including Henri Alekan, des lumières et des hommes; Les Yeux brûlés; Modèle depuis toujours; and L'Impromptu de Jacques Copeau for La Sept-Arte in 1993. Feature-length film screenwriter (Ni ange ni bête, in collaboration with Jean-François Goyet in 1990), and co-writer with Jean-Daniel Pollet for Ceux d'en face (1998). Critic for Cahiers du Cinéma from 1995 to 1997, and editor for their special issues "Kiarostami" and "Nouvelles technologies". Contributor to France Culture radio, he was responsible for the Cinema portion of the program Staccato from 1997 to 1999. He has published collaborative works: Abbas Kiarostami, Éditions des Cahiers du Cinéma and Qu'est-ce qu'une Madeleine? (on Chris Marker), Éditions du Centre Georges Pompidou / Yves Gevaert. Founder and leader of Ciné Citoyen in Paris, he also participates in the programming of numerous festivals, such as États Généraux du Documentaire at Lussas. Having worked with the International Documentary Festival of Marseilles since 1997, Laurent Roth has successively been correspondent, member of the selection committee, and he was in charge of the Festival's retrospectives before being named artistic director for this year's festival.

Sylvie Brenet

Born in 1971. She studied Political Science and International Law. She made her debut in audiovisual production in Strasbourg, then came back to her native Marseilles. Working with the Festival since 1998, she coordinates the programming, maintains the network of correspondents, and assists in selections. As of this year she has been the general programming coordinator, responsible for the preselection and selection of films along side Laurent Roth.

Patrick Leboutte

Born in Brussels in 1960. Essayist and itinerant critic, long time collections director for Yellow Now Editions, he is currently History and Esthetics of Cinema professor at INSAS (Brussels) and editor of the review L'Image, le monde. As of this year, he is the Festival's artistic consultant, participating in selections and leading the debates and round tables.
