FILMSTOCK International Film Festival

The focus for Filmstock 2000 was Luton's Modern Arts and Media Centre, Artezium.

Many of the comedy double bills were screened there. Artezium was also the venue for the Vintage Night, Ray Harryhausen talk and the Closing Gala amongst other events.

Another key venue was Cineworld Luton, situated in the new Central Galaxy Entertainment Complex. Cineworld was the generous host for the War Child charity screenings, as well as a Chick Flicks day, the Chiltern FM listeners screening and other comedy showings. The University of Luton was the venue for an afternoon of special discussion forums given by filmmakers Lee Chambers and Indra Bhose. Lastly, entertainment was laid on at the Galaxy Centre's Brannigans, hosts for the Filmstock 2000 launch party.

Winner of the Best International Short Award

The film was of such high quality in terms of the narrative and visuals that the humour and emotion didn't require translation to retain its great impact.

The other winners :

Gigantic Youth (UK, 11 mins.) winner of the Best British Short Award
The performance from the child actor and the beautifully constructed narrative and mise-en-scene blew us away on first viewing, and was equally rewarding with repeated screenings.

Estetkya (US, 11 mins.) winner of the Filmstock Visualisation Award
A film that is undoubtedly of its time and place, a true American movie told through a dazzling visual narrative.

Paradosis (11 mins.) winner of the
Filmstock Director's Choice Award
This film is beautiful. There is a feeling of love both in front of and behind the camera. We feel exhilarated at the story's emotion and craftsmanship after each viewing.
