FILMSTOCK International Film Festival

FILMSTOCK is more than a film festival...
It is about cinema in its entirety and aims to fuse the joy of movie going with the art of filmmaking in one simultaneous experience. It is not place or person specific but instead is aimed at anybody who watches or makes films, for whatever reason.

Filmstock International Film Festival takes place in Luton, UK, from the 1st untill the 15th of June 2001.

News letter from the 10th of april, 2001

Dear film makers, friends and supporters,

In 3 months time FILMSTOCK 2001 will be upon us. When you say it like that it isn't long at all, perilously short in fact. Thankfully everything is coming along a treat with all the elements fitting into place nicely. Our programme will be finalised by the start of April and the programmes and web site programmes will be published then. Tickets will be on sale from the 1st May, though this is subject to change, naturally.

Seasons

This year the festival is focusing on a diverse array of material. Under the spotlight are the films of David Lynch and Alan Parker, culminating in a celebration of the 10 year anniversary of The Commitments; a season of Blaxploitation films; an introduction to World Cinema titled Love. Murder. Subtitles.
Our main retrospectives are Villains and films in tune.

Short Film Competition

The response to this year's call for entries has been tremendous, the sheer amount and quality of films has been incredible and this years competition, set over the middle weekend of the festival is sure to be special. The Judges have all been invited, and we are waiting to hear confirmation from them all before disclosing any details.

Are you coming to Filmstock ?

We would love to see you at this year's event. In the mean time, check out our new website - www.filmstock.co.uk - the first stage of our new face lift is unveiled. Check it out and let us know what you think.

Take care Best,

Neil and Justin, Festival Directors.

FILMSTOCK 2001: a Zero Balance perspective

Anybody who lived with us through the first FILMSTOCK event in 2000, from its inception at the beginning of 1999 to the two awesome weeks in June last year, is a strong person.

It wasn’t easy, far from it. The support we received from friends and family, but especially local people, was incredible. At the end of the day we were a couple of young local lads with a vision and a lot of passion, but nothing else, and the amount of risks people took for us was humbling indeed.

This year, things have changed. People expect more, as a result most have pledged more. Now is the time to take FILMSTOCK to the next level, and start realising the real potential we know it has. As a result we have decided to run mini retrospectives to cater for the diversity of our local audience. Highlights include our Introduction to World Cinema entitled Love. Murder. Subtitles., a Blaxploitation season and focus on the work of Alan Parker and David Lynch. These are alongside our main seasons looking at Villains and Music in the movies AKA Films in Tune.

Special events are set to include our 10 year commemoration of the release of Alan Parker’s wonderful The Commitments, an outdoor screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and a talk and screening of Kubrick’s masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Our aims are still very much the same. We want to establish a festival that caters as much for the people who just watch and love movies as the filmmakers struggling to make an impact. That is why we programme the way we do, so that the people of Luton and the surrounding community, and the people making the effort to visit from around the globe are treated with equal respect.

Neil and Justin.
