| Some startling films at the recent New York Jewish Film Festival |
Though the Holocaust period provides an unlimited source of stories for features and documentaries, one is struck by new revelations coming to light. Among the premier Jewish Film festivals the New York Jewish Film Festival provided such insightful documentaries accompanied, by the superb Israeli films depicting problems and issues of contemporary Israeli society and restored films from the Jewish film history. Numerous of these films are co-funded through European sources, specifically the French-German ‘arte’ television ventures, standing in most cases for superior film making. To review all of the 32 features and shorts selected by the Jewish Museum and the Film Society of Lincoln Center is difficult, thus I single out some startling films.

| My Name is Khan to premier at berlin |
The much awaited new Indian film "My Name Is Khan" will be premiered at the 60th annual Berlin International Film Festival on Febuary 12, out of competition but very much in the limelight otherwise. MNIK is easily the most anticpated Hindi film of the year as it toplines the most popular Bombay star of all, Shah Rukh Khan (SRK), 44, who has reigned as "The King of Bollywood" for some fifteen years, reunited on screen for the first time in eight years with extremely popular actress Kajol, 35, with whom he co-starred in five box office smashes between 1992 and 2001, during which time SRK and Kajol were the hottest and most beloved screen couple in town.

| Film Execs look at the state of Indie Distribution |
The Sundance Film Festival is in full swing, some films are being bought and others are not. Understanding the reasons for these decisions is critical for independent filmmakers. Film Independent recently produced a round table that focused on indie distribution. This discussion looked at the economics of distribution; traditional, DIY, and digital strategies. The panelists also addressed the state of film distribution: past, present, and future.

| The Return of James Ivory |
James Ivory, the legendary director of such classic films as ROOM WITH A VIEW and HOWARD’S END, and part of the legendary Merchant/Ivory producing team, returns to the big screen with his newest film THE CITY OF YOUR FINAL DESTINATION. The film also marks his reunion with actor Anthony Hopkins, who starred in the director’s HOWARD’S END and THE REMAINS OF THE DAY, as well as a stellar cast that also includes Laura Linney, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Norma Aleandro and newcomer Omar Metwally.
