Seattle
Kicks Off In Broadway Style
|
On
May 24th at the Fifth Avenue Theater, the 27th Annual Seattle Int
Film Festival kicked off its screenings of 21 World Premieres
and the US premieres of two Cannes films. Entertaining over 150,000
film enthusiasts with over 250 films from more than 50 countries,
this 25-day event is one of the largest in the US and amongst the
top film festivals in the world.
The Opening Night Gala featured, The
Anniversary Party, in its first US showing following its premiere
in Cannes. This Broadway cabaret film co-stars Jennifer Jason Leigh
and Alan Cummings who debut most auspiciously as writer/directors
of the film as well.

| Portugal's
Costa Azul Festival |
The
Troia Int Film Fest unfolds in Setúbal, Portugal, a
port city that once was famed for the many salt galleons transporting
salt upriver. And history is an important element of the 17th festival
edition with a selection of films looking back 40 years to the Colonial
War days. The official film agenda is comprised of several programs
and the official selection will kick off with Everybody
Famous from Belgium director Dominique Deruddere, one of the
five films nominated for an Oscar this year. A couple of homages should
be noted, to Michael York and Fernando Lopes.

| Russia's
"Riviera" Film Festival |
Since
1994, the Annual Kinotavr Open Russian Film Festival has been
taking place in Sochi, the spectacular Russian Riviera, located 1500
miles south of Moscow on the Black Sea coast. Renowned for its beautiful
landscapes, spas, and mineral springs similar to Northern California,
the rich and famous of Russian culture come to Sochi to feast and
fest. Some of the international stars who have participated in the
festival in the past include: Gerard Depardieu, Annie Girardot, Michael
York, Helmut Berger and Terence Stamp.

The
Annecy International Animated Film Festival, the Cannes of
animation and one of the leading animation events in the world,
will be rolling out the red carpet for its British retrospective
to greet star animators Peter Lord and Nick Park, closely followed
by their favourite bodyguards, Wallace & Gromit and Ginger &
Rocky. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of his birth, the
Festival pays tribute to Alexandre Alexeieff and an honorary homage
to the late legendary creator and co-founder of Hanna Barbera production
studios, William Hanna, who passed away this spring at the age of
90.
