San
Sebastian's Golden Shell Lands in Chile

The
big winner of the Golden Shell Award at the 49th San Sebastian
Film Festival, went to Taxi para tres (
A Cab for Three) by Orlando Lübbert (Chile). After receiving
the award from jury president Claude Chabrol, Lubbert proclaimed,
"We are not used to getting awards because our cinema is just starting.
This is a very happy moment for us."

Awards Lift New York Spirits |

Despite
the recent most devastating crime to have ever hit this indomitable
metropolis, many stars came out on October 1 for the Gotham Awards,
including Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman and Robert De Niro, the Lifetime
Achievement Award honoree. Hawke, a confirmed New Yorker, put it
best: "We need to show that we will not succumb to fear, and this
event allows us to feel close to a community, instead of feeling
scared in our own minds".

According
to festival director Josef Wutz, Filmfest Hamburg 2001, which
closed on September 30, was a rousing success with more than 25,000
film fans in attendance. The new "Digi@ward" was presented to the
Danish producer Henrik Danstrup for his film KAT, with second
place going to British producer Ben Woolford for his film This
Filthy Earth.

People Award to The Road Home |

The
audience of the 2001 Calgary International Film Festival which
closed on September 30, has voted the poignant Chinese love story
The
Road Home
its favorite film of the six-day festival. The inaugural AGF People's
Choice Award, a 40-cm. brushed-aluminum sculpture of a joyful film
lover riding a film reel like a unicycle, will be shipped to director
Zhang Yimou in China.
