Surprises,
sweeps, cheers and tears marked this year's 2nd Directors Board
Awards for Excellence in Broadband Motion Pixure Production -- the
top honors for Internet motion pictures otherwise known as the
2nd Pixie Awards. Postponed due to the recent terrorist
attacks on American soil, the Pixies 2001 were given out on September
22 and dedicated to the international community and the power of
art to unite.

The
2nd Woodstock Film Festival (Sept. 20-23) was a resounding
success, according to filmmakers, industry participants and audiences
at the four day film extravaganza in Woodstock, New York. More than
90% of films, seminars and events were sold out in advance with approximately
4000 people attending. Best Feature film trophy was shared by two
films: Recoil by Polish filmmaker Jarek Kupsc and Wendigo
by American filmmaker Larry Fessenden.

New Alpha Cine Award |

Alpha
Cine Labs, an industry leader in motion picture film processing headquartered
in Seattle, has announced the creation of "The Alpha Cine Filmmaker
Award" to be given out at the 2002 Seattle International Film
Festival (May 23 - June 16, 2002). The jury award, which will allow
a finished feature film (narrative or documentary) to be transferred
to 35mm film from an original digital or Super 16mm format, is valued
at $100,000 and marks the largest filmmaker award of its kind at a
North American Festival.

Awards Chasing Sleep |

Scandinavia's
only genre film festival, the 7th Fantastisk Film Festival
in Lund and Malmö, Sweden, ended on Sunday September 23rd with an
Award Ceremony at the multiplex Filmstaden in Lund. The Jury fell
for Chasing Sleep and Donnie Darko took home the Audience
Award at this year's edition.
