The festival closes on Saturday with screenings from five countries,
including: Kirikou and the Sorceress (France), Our
Lady of the Assassins (Colombia), Together
(Sweden) and Startup.com
(US), just before the Closing Party and the screening of Australia's
hit The
Dish.

Film and TV Festival of Ouagadougou
February 24 - March 3 (Burkina Faso)
Ouagadougou is the largest African film festival and held only once
every two years in Burkina Faso. This year's 17th edition will host
an exhibition on image and sound new technologies. Workshops will
give professionals and new technology promoters a basis for exchange
and experiment of down-to-earth applications

At the conclusion of each of the 26 international films that are
shown during this year's FIU Miami Film Festival, audience members
will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite film.

Independent Film Festival
Feb. 26
On February 26, Roma Independent Film Festival (RIFF) will hold
an inaugural monthly series. They will present the films received
from around the world in an informal environment -- there will be
no competition awards given in February 2001. However, the films
presented in this first of their monthly series will be entered
in the 2002 awards competition.

Awards Ceremony

There
were few surprises when the Academy announced its picks for the
Best of 2000 Oscar nominees February 13. Gladiator,
Crouching
Tiger,
Hidden Dragon, and Traffic
all received nods for Best Film -- while Crouching Tiger
picked up an extra nod for Best Foreign Film as well. Julia Roberts
received yet another Oscar nomination, this time for her role in
Erin Brockovich.
