Getting High on Films at
Highgate
Located in one of London’s most beautiful
remaining medieval villages, the Highgate Film Festival (HFF) is
North London’s only film festival designed to give new talent access
to the big screen. This summer, the HFF is expanding and will be
showing a week of new and diversely entertaining flics from independent
filmmakers around the world. In exhibition, there will be presentations
of films of all standards, from lo/no to big budget, world premieres,
shorts, features, comedy, drama, experimental, documentary films
and childrens animation. Every day, the fest will be screening two
new independent features and selected short films. The festival
will, also, present workshops, talks from industry players and special
cinematic events.
The Highgate Film Festival is keen
to encourage new writers and directors and embraces the latest production
methods, especially digital technology. Here is the chance to see
these uniquely independent films before anyone else.
Short-listed
films in each category are shown to a panel of local experts for
judging. At last year's Festival, the judging panel included: Maureen
Lipman, Jonathan Pryce, Marc Bannerman, Jill Trevelick, and Bill
Paterson. This year's jury members are yet to be confirmed.
A sculpted
modern art trophy will be awarded for Best Film, Best Director,
Best Actor and Best Student Film, while the most promising newcomer
will receive a box of music CD’s and film soundtracks from Universal
Music.
Sponsors for the 2001 edition of
the Highgate Film Festival include: Filmfestivals.com. Phoenix Cinema,
East Finchley and Jackson`s Lane Centre, Highgate.
