PALMARÈS DU FIFOG 2018

Genève, le 28 avril 2018

La 13ème édition du Festival International du Film Oriental de Genève a tenu sa cérémonie de remise des Prix le samedi 28 avril dans la salle Michel Simon des Cinémas du Grütli dans une ambiance festive rythmée par des intermèdes artistiques variés : des poèmes et des danses. La distribution des prix aux heureux lauréats a été suivie par la projection du film Petits Bonheurs du réalisateur marocain Mohamed Chrif Tribek.

DISTRIBUTION DES RÉCOMPENSES : L'IRAN RAFLE LA MISE

A cette occasion, les jurys des compétitions longs-métrages et courts métrages, documentaires et Prix de la critique, scolaires et pénitentiaires ont rendu public leur palmarès respectif. Pendant que les réalisateurs d’Iran raflent la mise, ceux d’Algérie, du Liban, de Tunisie et de la Turquie ont été distingués.

En effet, tandis que le FIFOG d’or de la compétition officielle des longs-métrages a été décerné à Mahmoud Ghaffari (Iran) pour son film N° 17. Soheila ; celui des courts métrages a été octroyé à Onur Yagiz (Turquie) pour son film Toprak et celui des documentaires est revenu à Mehrdad Oskouei (Iran) pour son film Des Rêves sans Etoiles. Le Prix de la critique a été attribué à Karim Moussaoui (Algérie) pour son film En Attendant les Hirondelles.

Dans la compétition scolaire, les réalisateurs Basma Farhat (Liban), Sadam Wahidi (Afghanistan) et Baqeral-Rubaie (Iraq) ont été gratifié(e)s par des FIFOGs d’or, respectivement, pour leur film The Shield That I Carry, You Are Not American et The Violet. Dans cette même catégorie, les films suivants ont reçu une mention spéciale : Tata Milouda de Nadja Harek (France), Le Convive de Hakim Mastour (Suisse, Tunisie), et Take My Hand de Serge Majdalany (Liban).

Enfin, pendant que Aya de Moufida Fedhila (Tunisie) a remporté le Fifog d’or de la Compétition des établissements pénitentiaires de Champ-Dollon et de La Brennaz, Ramdam de Zangro (France) a joui d’une mention spéciale.

LE FIFOG SE PROLONGE DANS LES COMMUNES GENEVOISES

Cette 13ème édition, avec son succès public et médiatique, confirme l’importance du FIFOG dans le paysage culturel de Genève. D’ailleurs le festival se prolonge encore le dimanche avec plusieurs projections en présence de plusieurs invités. Durant le dimanche le public peut continuer à profiter des films en provenance d’Iran, de Suisse, de Tunisie d’Algérie, de France, du Maroc et du Liban qui verra sa première fiction (Ila Ayn ? de Gorges Nasser, 1957) projetée pour la première fois à Genève. Après le week-end, le FIFOG va investir plusieurs foyers pour requérants d’asile situés dans les communes genevoises. Enfin, après cela, il donne rendez-vous à son public genevois pour l’été, et en plein air dans les parcs genevois.

LES FEMMES ET LA JEUNESSE

Cette année le FIFOG a présenté 102 films en provenance de 30 pays d’Orient et d’Occident qui mettent en valeur les femmes et la jeunesse. Placée sous le patronage de la Commission suisse pour l’UNESCO, cette 13ème cuvée a valorisé les films de femmes et ceux donnant une vision positive de celles-ci. Les jeunes sont aussi mis en valeur avec l’exposition de leurs créations. À travers des fictions et des documentaires, les réalisatrices et les réalisateurs ont présenté leur vision progressiste du monde et exprimé leur espoir de voir des lendemains meilleurs. Les images sont plus fortes que les mots et les créations filmiques sont autant d’hirondelles annonçant un printemps qui ne sera que plus fleuri. En ces temps de pessimisme et de violence, ces fleurs promises ont été des remèdes qui apaisent les âmes en colère et les esprits en furies.

LE FIFOG COMME ESPACE DE RENCONTRES

Les multiples débats, échanges, prestations artistiques et rencontres ont également contribué à nouer des liens, à réduire les distances et faire face aux préjugés. Plus de quatre-vingt invités ont pris part à cette édition. Certains sont repartis avec de nouvelles amitiés, pendant que d’autres ont posés les jalons de futurs projets avec des personnes rencontrés. De son côté le public a aussi bien contribué à la réflexion autour des enjeux des sociétés orientales d’aujourd’hui, tout comme il a pu s’évader à travers des films chatouillant les esprits ou goûter aux plaisirs culinaires proposés par l’association RMCA qui favorise l’intégration des requérants d’asile à Genève.

PALMARÈS 

1.   LONGS-METRAGES

Le Prix FIFOG D’OR est décerné au film N° 17. SOHEILA de Mahmoud Ghaffari (Iran).

“A travers ce prix, nous avons voulu primer une quête féminine sur soi, l’art du dialogue, le jeu d’acteur ; l’image.”

Le Prix FIFOG D’ARGENT est décerné au film ISRAFIL, réalisé par Ida Panahendeh (Iran).

“A travers ce prix, nous avons voulu primer le traitement des personnages, l’exigence esthétique, le traitement audacieux des liens filiaux, la beauté du « personnage » qui est le paysage.”

2.   PALMARES DE LA CRITIQUE

Le jury du Prix de la Critique, composé de Katia MEYLAN, Henda HAOULA et de Tewfik HAKEM

Le prix FIFOG D’OR DE LA CRITIQUE est décerné au film EN ATTENDANT LES HIRONDELLES de Karim Moussaoui (Algérie).

“A travers ce prix, nous avons voulu le primer pour son écriture scénaristique audacieuse,  son regard à la fois distant et impliqué d’une Algérie qui se mue et qui se cherche.”

La Mention spéciale a été attribuée au film IPERITA de Mohamed Bouzaggou (Maroc) “ pour avoir traduit un silence oppressant intéressant d’un point de vue cinématographique.”

3.   PALMARES DES DOCUMENTAIRES

Le jury du Prix documentaire, composé de Clara ROUSSEAU, Hélène MILANO et de Marie-Laurence ATTIAS

Le Prix FIFOG D’OR est décerné au film DES RÊVES SANS ETOILES de Mehrdad Oskouei (Iran).

“La liberté émerge dans les têtes et dans les cœurs, irréductible malgré la dureté des chemins de la vie. Un souffle armé de la puissance de la jeunesse en dépit de la violence de l’enfermement.”

Le Prix FIFOG D’ARGENT est décerné au film YA OMRI (104 WRINKLES), réalisé par Hady Zaccak (Liban).

“Hady promène sa caméra sur la peau parcheminée de sa grand-mère et réussit par touches sensibles et moments fugaces à retracer son histoire, reculer la mort et nous livrer son secret de longévité : l’amour.”

La Mention spéciale est attribuée au film H’NA BARRA (NOUS DEHORS) (Algérie) de Bahia Bencheik El Fegoun et Meriem Achour Bouakkaz qui “voilée, dévoilée, le film nous conduit vers l’intimité avec profondeur et sincérité pour comprendre une problématique complexe.”

4.   PALMARES - COURTS-METRAGES

Le jury de la compétition courts-métrages est composé de Marie-Eve MUSY, Mme Malak DAHMOUNI et de Mme Elaheh NOBAKHT.

Le Prix FIFOG D’OR est décerné au film TOPRAK de Onur Yagiz (Turquie).

“A travers ce Prix, nous avons voulu primer l’excellente réalisation remplie de symboles utilisés pour raconter cette réalité que vivent les enfants d’émigrés qui se retrouvent à devoir assumer des responsabilités d’adultes trop tôt. Ils reprennent le rôle de leurs parents et la rupture avec l’enfance est abrupte.”

Le Prix FIFOG D’ARGENT est décerné au film GAZE, réalisé par Farnoosh Samadi (Iran).

“A travers ce prix, nous avons voulu primer un film fort en émotions. Nous soulignons les jeux de regards incroyables et une performance d’actrice naturelle et puissante, qui permet au spectateur de ressentir la vulnérabilité de toute femme seule, évoluant dans un espace public, que ce soit en Orient ou en Occident.”

5.    COMPETITION PENTITENTIAIRE : CHAMP-DOLLON ET LA BRENAZ

Le jury de la compétition des courts-métrages des établissements pénitentiaires de Champ-Dollon et de La Brenaz est composé des détenus de la section femmes de Champ-Dollon et de détenus de la section hommes de La Brenaz.

Le Prix FIFOG D’OR est décerné au film AYA, réalisé par Moufida Fedhila (Tunisie).

“A travers ce prix, nous avons voulu primer ce film parce que nous avons été touché(es) par son message. Nous avons également voulu primer l’authenticité des personnages, l’innocence de l’actrice principale et le courage de la réalisatrice.”

La Mention spéciale a été attribuée au film RAMDAM, réalisé par Zangro (France).

“A travers ce prix, nous avons voulu primer le message que véhicule le film, un message qui combat les préjugés, prêche la compréhension mutuelle, et ce dans un registre humoristique.”

Le jury de la compétition scolaire des courts-métrages

Le Prix FIFOG D’OR est décerné au film YOU ARE NOT AMERICAN, réalisé par Sadam Wahidi (Afghanistan).

“A travers le FIFOG D’OR, nous avons voulu primer la puissance de l’émotion suscitée par la mise en scène de la rencontre entre un soldat blessé et un enfant, victimes de la barbarie de la guerre. Lorsque le désert des combats détruit la terre nourricière, lorsque la violence réduit au silence la parole bienveillante des mères, lorsque la femme et l’enfance sont anéanties, alors tout espoir pour l’humanité est perdu.”

La Mention spéciale du jury a été attribué au film LE CONVIVE, réalisé par Hakim Mastour (Suisse, Tunisie).

“A travers la Mention, nous avons voulu primer la voie ouverte par la jeunesse au sein de la société traditionnelle tunisienne : les rires libérateurs des derniers plans viennent couronner un coming out osé par le marié à ses parents. La loi du père laissée derrière eux, époux et amoureux, prennent le large pour vivre « l’amour du même ».”

Le Prix FIFOG D’OR est décerné au film THE VIOLET, réalisé par Baqeral-Rubaie (Iraq).

 “A travers ce prix, nous avons voulu primer un film profond, touchant et surprenant qui nous montre que, malgré l'absurdité et la brutalité de la guerre, l'espoir, l’innocence et l'imagination des enfants gardent toute leur puissance et cela même au-delà de la mort. Ce film nous a beaucoup inspiré et nous sommes très heureux de l'avoir découvert. Félicitations à toute l'équipe qui a réalisé ce film.”

La Mention spéciale du jury a été attribué au film TAKE MY HAND, réalisé par Serge Majdalany (Liban). 

COMPETITION SCOLAIRE ECG ELLA MAILLART

Le Prix FIFOG D’OR est décerné au film THE SHIELD THAT I CARRY, réalisé par Basma Farhat (Liban).

« A travers ce prix, nous avons voulu primer un film particulièrement touchant évoquant un sujet tabou dans la société ainsi qu’une mise en scène originale. Nous avons été sensibles au fait que l’auteur soit le sujet de son film : une femme qui s’émancipe et qui assume ses choix au-delà des préjugés, une femme courageuse qui ose affronter l’autorité. Le film est porteur d’espoir, s’inscrit au centre des films proposés par ce festival et démontre qu’il est important de choisir ce que l’on veut réellement, ce qui nous tient à cœur. »

La Mention spéciale du jury a été attribué au film TATA MILOUDA, réalisé par Nadja Harek (France).

The 13th edition of the International Oriental Film Festival held its prize-giving ceremony on Saturday 28 April in the Michel Simon Hall of the Grütli Cinemas in a festive atmosphere punctuated by various artistic interludes: poems and dances. The distribution of the prizes to the lucky winners was followed by the screening of the film Petits Bonheurs by Moroccan director Mohamed Chrif Tribek.

DISTRIBUTION OF REWARDS: IRAN IS CLEANING UP

On this occasion, the juries of the feature film and short film competitions, documentaries and Critics, School and Penitentiary Awards have announced their respective awards. While the filmmakers of Iran took home many prizes, those from Algeria, Lebanon, Tunisia and Turkey were highly distinguished. Indeed, while the gold FIFOG for the official feature film competition was awarded to Mahmoud Ghaffari (Iran) for his film No. 17. Soheila; the short film award went to Onur Yagiz (Turkey) for his film Toprak, and the documentary prize went to Mehrdad Oskouei (Iran) for his film Des Rêves sans Etoiles. The Critics' Prize was awarded to Karim Moussaoui (Algeria) for his film En Attendant les Hirondelles.

In the school competition, filmmakers Basma Farhat (Lebanon), Sadam Wahidi (Afghanistan) and Baqeral-Rubaie (Iraq) were awarded gold FIFOGs, respectively, for their films The Shield That I Carry, You are not American and The Violet. Finally, while Aya by Moufida Fedhila (Tunisia) won the Gold Fifog of the Champ-Dollon and La Brennaz Penitentiary Institutions Competition, Ramdam by Zangro (France) received a special mention.

FIFOG CONTINUES IN THE MUNICIPALITIES OF GENEVA

This 13th edition with its public and media success confirms the importance of FIFOG in the cultural landscape of Geneva. Moreover, the festival continues on Sunday with several screenings in the presence of distinguished guests. The public can continue to enjoy films from Iran, Switzerland, Tunisia, Algeria, France, Morocco and Lebanon (Ila Ayn?, Gorges Nasser, (1957) whose fiction film will be projected for the first time in Geneva. After the weekend, the FIFOG will enter several homes for asylum seekers located in the municipalities of Geneva. To end, there will be an appearance with the public, outdoors in the parks of Geneva.

HONORING WOMEN AND YOUTH

This year, the FIFOG presented 102 films from 30 countries spanning East to West, intending to bring feminine creativity and youth to the forefront. Placed under the patronage of the Swiss UNESCO Commission, this 13th edition highlights positive messages in films by and about women. Through fiction films and documentaries, directors presented their progressive vision of the world and expressed their hope for a better tomorrow. Images are stronger than words and these creative films are like swallows announcing the blossoms of a new spring. In these times of pessimism and violence, these flowers promise to be remedies to appease angry souls and spirits in fury.

THE FIFOG AS A MEETING PLACE

The many debates, exchanges, performances and meetings have contributed to the building of relationships, reduced distances and helped deal with prejudices. More than eighty guests took part in this edition. Some left with new friendships, while others laid the groundwork for future projects with the people they met. For its part, the public contributed to a larger reflection surrounding issues within Eastern societies today. They were able to escape through films that tickled the spirit, and taste the culinary pleasures proposed by the association RMCA which favors the integration of asylum seekers in Geneva.

The GOLD FIFOG prize of the Critcs is awarded to the film EN ATTENDANT LES HIRONDELLES by Karim Moussaoui (Algeria).

"Through this award, we wanted to highlight his bold scriptwriting, for this look at once remote and involved with an Algeria that is changing, an Algeria turned toward self-searching."The Special Mention has been awarded to the film IPERITA by Mohamed Bouzaggou (Morocco) "For having translated an oppressive and interesting silence into a cinematographic point of view."

3. DOCUMENTARY PRIZES

The jury of the Documentary Prize, composed of Clara ROUSSEAU, Hélène MILANO and Marie-Laurence ATTIAS

The GOLD FIFOG prize is awarded to the film DES RÊVES SANS ETOILES by Mehrdad Oskouei (Iran). "When freedom emerges in the heads and in the hearts, irreducible despite the harshness of the paths of life. A blast armed with the power of youth despite the violence of confinement. The Jury for the Prisons of Champ-Dollon and La Brenaz is composed of detainees from the women's section of Champ-Dollon and detainees from the men's section of La Brenaz.

The GOLD FIFOG prize is awarded to the film AYA, directed by Moufida Fedhila (Tunisia)."Through this award, we wanted to praise this film because we were touched by its message, we also wanted to recognize the authenticity of the characters, the innocence of the main actress and the courage of the director."

Special mention to the film RAMDAM, directed by Zangro (France).

"Through this award, we wanted to praise the message surrounding this film, a message that fights prejudice, preaches mutual understanding, all in a humorous way."

"Through the GOLD FIFOG, we wanted to recognize the emotional power aroused by the staging of this meeting between a wounded soldier and a child, victims of the barbarity of the war. When the desert left over after the fighting destroys the nourished earth, when violence silences the benevolent word of mothers, when women and childhood are wiped out, then all hope for humanity is lost. "The Special Mention of the Jury was awarded to LE CONVIVE, directed by Hakim Mastour (Switzerland, Tunisia).

"Through this Mention, we wanted to praise the path opened by the youth in Tunisian traditional society: the laughs of liberators in the last scene come to crown the daring ‘coming out’ of the groom to his parents. Having left he laws of the father behind them, husband and lover take off into the world at large to live "A love together".

This film was a great source of inspiration and we are very happy to have discovered it. Congratulations to all the team that made this film.

The Jury Special Mention was awarded to the film TAKE MY HAND, directed by Serge Majdalany (Lebanon).

SCHOOL COMPETITION ECG ELLA MAILLART

The FIFOG D'OR Award is awarded to THE SHIELD THAT I CARRY, directed by Basma Farhat (Lebanon)."Through this award, we wanted to praise a particularly touching film evoking a taboo subject in society within an original staging. We were sensitive to the fact that the author is the subject of her film: a woman who emancipates herself and who assumes her choices beyond prejudices, a courageous woman who dares to confront authority. The film brings hope and is at the center of the films screened at this festival by demonstrating that it is important to choose what we really want, what is important to us. "

The Special Mention of the Jury was awarded to the film TATA MILOUDA, directed by Nadja Harek (France).
