Overview

FILMSTOCK means more to us than just being a film festival. As residents of Luton all our life, it gives us a chance to deliver something we never had growing up, and still don't really, apart from those two weeks in June.

The task of focusing on the whole spectrum of film in Luton is one that is very important to us. We believe the people of the town and the surrounding area deserve the chance to see the sort of films that normally only play in London or other major cities including world cinema, re-released classics, short films and documentaries.

Our first event in 2000 was a great success, providing some great memories, but more importantly a great platform and the evidence that an international festival could take place in Luton. This year's event was hampered by the closure of the influential local Arts centre and home of FILMSTOCK 2000, meaning we had to find somewhere to screen our retrospectives and host our short film competition. The success of the first year was most evident in the forthcoming support from the local council and the regional Arts funding body East England Arts. Their financial support and resources have been invaluable.

This year we are looking to have a great time, show some great films and bring together some great people. FILMSTOCK is gaining a reputation for the quality and diversity of it's programming, the best parties and a dedication to anybody and everybody who picks up a camera or buys a ticket to the movies.

Thanks to filmfestivals.com and others this reputation can only continue to grow and we can keep FILMSTOCK unique among film festivals.
