Daimon

Daimon Production is an independent production company founded in 2009 by the freelance video reporter Emiliano Pappacena. Daimon Production has swiftly become a real teamwork of young professionals who pool their know-how in the audiovisual industry. Our mission is to produce TV reports, documentaries and new TV formats paying particular attention to social issues, immigration, environmental sustainability and technological innovation. Our video reports have been aired on Rai Due, Rai Tre, Rai Storia and on the satellite television Rai Edu. Why Daimon? The Daimon can be regarded as a spirit or an entity - superior to man but inferior to divinities - or even as a jinn or a demon. According to the Greek philosopher Socrates, the Daimon was that entity that drove him to discuss, confront and search for moral truth. Each and every one of us has their own Daimon. Ours is curiosity, the thirst for truth that compels us to dissect and then reassemble the complex reality in which we all live through our video productions.

About the Director:

Vincenzo Notaro was born on 11 March 1979 in Naples, where he spent his childhood as a scugnizzo (Neapolitan urchin). In the mid-90s he moved to Latina (Lazio region), where his carefree nature gave way to an increasingly muddy and marshy - almost stagnant - character. When he was 19, he tried to disentangle himself from Latina's quicksand by moving to Bologna, although without any clear plan (becoming a communist? having a dog? having tons of piercings? being hated and cursed by locals because of the droppings left on the pavement by his new four-legged friend?). Nevertheless, Bologna managed to broaden his horizons. Once he had put aside his former odd ideas, he started attending drama classes, cinema training courses, sometimes even university. And he made his first shorts, both as an actor and a director. Despite this considerable amount of activities, he also managed to graduate and to obtain a degree in Humanities (even though at the DAMS, the faculty of performing arts). On a gloomy day of March 2005 - before the disbelieving eyes of his relatives and friends, who had come from the marsh - he was elevated to the rank of Dottore (Bachelor of Arts). In the spring of 2005 he moved back to Latina - where he is still living - but this time with the firm resolution not to let himself be drowned again by the quietness of the marsh - with a certain success, we might add. Here, with a group of friends driven by the same passion, he has taken part in several film productions, shorts, documentaries, and has been involved in many projects holding different roles, both as a director and as a member of the staff. Some of these people are nowadays authors contributing to Daimon Production (because, as they say, "IT'S A SMALL WORLD").

Film synopsis:

In 2004, Mario Pisanti was just about to take part in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens as a member of the Italian boxing team but a serious car accident shattered his dream. In 2008, after four years spent away from competition, Mario made his comeback to professional boxing to heal the wound left by the Olympic Games that slipped through his fingers. Nowadays, his sports redemption is not an easy task. Mario lives in a provincial town where self-styled managers – who promise him fights that never come – are the only people fuelling his dream. Mario is also undergoing financial distress. He is constantly searching for a position that could ensure his family’s financial stability. Our main character is torn between holding on doggedly to his dream and letting himself sink into a provincial life, giving up his ambitions. Mario can only rely on his unwavering resolve in order to reach his goal.
