John Waters
Baltimore's most known filmmaker, John Waters is one of the most daring authors of contemporary cinema, a master in bad taste so to speak. His latest film Cecil B Demented, a spoof on Hollywood filmmaking, screened out of competition at Cannes, onto Toronto and now at San Sebastian where it was one of the few movies to screen at the Velodrome, one of the largest screening facilities in the world. Here are a few of his off the wall comments:

*I think Dogme is as great a marketing technique as Odorama.
*Divine was my Liz Taylor and I mean that with all respsect.
*Pedro Almodovar is the most joyous filmmaker I know.
*I make foreign films even in America.
* This is the best time ever for crazy young filmmakers to get their films screened.
*I made trash epics.
*In the next 10 years, real Hollywood stars will have real sex in Hollywood movies.
*
All my movies are about how Americans think fame will cure everything. I only make fun of things I like.
*Johnny Depp, Patty Hearst, Traci Lords, even Melanie Griffiths all worked with me in hopes of changing their image.

About Cecil B Demented
After I sent a copy of the script to Patricia Hearst, herself the victim of a kidnapping, she replied back, "You're a very sick man." (She did appear in the film)

It took 31 days to shoot. I shot the exact movie, used every angle and it came out to 88 minutes instead of the 90 minutes I had expected.

I chose Stephen Dorff because I thought he could play Cecil B seriously.

You get money from wherever you can get it. I got money from Canal + in France to make fun of Hollywood.

I made a Hollywood underground movie. I'm parodying myself and the seriousness with which films are made.

My next film is about sex addicts.
