German sales force Bavaria Film International (BFI) has added the Buena Vista International-distributed Bandits to its increasingly high-profile licensing label, German Independents.
A road movie about a gang of female jailbirds on the run, the Olga Film production has taken over $3.8 million after six weeks in Germany. The film's soundtrack reportedly went to number one in Germany's Media-Control-Charts.
BFI's Michael Weber maintained the growing German Independents label was not aiming to specialise in any particular genre of film. He pointed out the diversity of a slate that includes drama Jenseits der Stille (Beyond Silence) and hit satire Rossini, screening out of competition in Montreal. 'We are just looking for films that are able to travel,' he said.
Weber also revealed Rossini has sold to Spain and Finland in post-Cannes deals. The Diana Film production, a dark-humoured take on the local media scene, recorded over three million admissions in Germany when released by Constantin Film.
BFI's other out of competition title, 14 Tage lebenslänglich (A Fortnight for Life), went to Bear Entertainment for South Korea at Cannes. The Helkon Media production secured over 228,800 admissions after three weeks when Helkon's Nil Film released the thriller in Germany. Adam Minns
