The International Moscow Film Festival is typical of the new enterprise culture in Russia: brash, enthusiastic and eager to keep up with the best and the latest in the world of film. The jury was headed by Richard Gere this year and many film luminaries visited the festival.

MOSCOW JURY DECIDES NOT TO AWARD TOP PRIZE
- Grand Prix: no winner

- Special Jury Prize:
Lajos Koltai, director of photography of Mario und der Zauberer (Mario and the Magician)

- Silver St George Award for Best Director (US$20,000): to be shared between
Régis Wargnier (Une femme Française) and
Milan Steindler (Diky za kazde nove rano)

- Silver St George Award for Best Actor (US$20,000):
Gabriel Barylli (Une femme Française)

- Silver St George Award for Best Actress (US$20,000):
Emmanuelle Béart (Une femme Française)

- Christian Jury Award:
The Englishman Who Went Up The Hill, But Came Down A Mountain by Christopher Monger

- Kodak St Anna Award:
Eggs by Bent Hamer

- Andrei Tarkovsky Award:
Klaus Maria Brandauer for Mario und der Zauberer (Mario and the Magician)

- Russian Critics Award:
A Last Note by Kaneto Shindo

- Finally, Mosfest's Presidential Council awarded its Special Prizes to :
Polish actress Beata Tyshkevich,
Italian scriptwriter Tonino Guerra
and the late Russian director Sergei Bondarchuck.
