The
Netherlands - French Premiere
De Grote Vakantie
(The Long Holiday)
Theatrical release for 8 November
In October 1998, Johan van der Keuken called his radiologist from
Paris and heard that he only had a few years to live.
Van der Keuken has travelled the world for years with his wife Nosh
van der Lely-who is also the sound editor of all his movies. Together,
they decided to spend the rest of their precious time looking and
listening. They travelled from Buthan to Rio and San Francisco.
Johan van der Keuken regarded the film they were embarking on as
a chronicle of his own view of the world, made of the more urgent
by his own mortality.
This film received several prizes:
Best Documentary at Forum International Film Festival, Berlin 2000
Special Honory Award at Thessaloniki
Best Documentary at the It's All True Documentary Film Festival,
Brazil 2000
Silver Spire at San Francisco International Film Festival 2000
Grand Prix at Visions du réel Festival, Nyon 2000
