The
2nd edition claims to be the first independent film festival to
screen films (with video projectors) in bars, restaurants and
assorted nooks in the East Village and the Lower East Side. Electronic
and dance music plays a major role in the festival as well. Up
and coming underground New York DJs will be spinning the nightly
parties. Receiving hundreds of submissions from all over the world,
the festival has chosen 6 features and over 30 shorts in the categories
of shorts, features, animation and documentaries. The opening
night film will be the debut of Glen Trotiner's Overnight
Sensation. The film is about a young writer, who quits
his PA job and heads out to the Sundance Film Festival to create
a festival buzz for his script.
The festival will be embracing Internet technology as well. In
conjunction with Always Independent Films.com (alwaysif.com),
five films from the program will be streamed on the site during
each day of the festival. Choosing the awards for Best Feature,
Best Short, Best Animation and Best Documentary will be this year's
judges from various companies such as Warner Brothers, Miramax
Films, Independent Feature Project, CitySearch, New York University's
Tisch School and 01films.com.
