Bowfinger

Synopsis

Producer/director Bobby Bowfinger (Steve Martin) has seen better days and his Bowfinger International Studios couldn't more deserted. But the debt-ridden Bowfinger refuses to admit defeat, and decides to make a film based on a bad script he liked. The idea is to film the well-known Kit Ramsey (Eddie Murphy) - who refuses to appear in his film - in a candid camera style and make him the protagonist of his film unbeknownst to Ramsey. The title, Chubby Rain, would become the first horror fiction documentary in the history of cinema.

Frank Oz, Director

"We didn't put the accent on Hollywood movie-making. Our movie is about a group of dreamers with ambition, but who are shall we say incompetent."

Steve Martin, Screenplay

"It's rare to find a director who is the first to laugh at a comic scene and who is not afraid to include some of the weird moments. Frank recognizes that a gag can be funny without really knowing why."

"I originally wrote the role of Kit Ramsey for a white actor, but when Brian Grazer (producer) suggested Eddie Murphy, it seemed like a brilliant idea. Murphy brought some incredible know-how and great ideas that incorporated into the scenario."
