ANNUAL LE PRIX CRISTAL FILM STAR AWARDS Los Angeles, CA After four successful Film Star Awards shows during the Cannes International Film Festival, the Le Prix Cristal has moved to Hollywood! On Sunday, April 29, 2001, the Daryl F. Zanuck Theatre on the 20th Century Fox Film Studios lot becomes the venue of the 5th Annual le Prix Cristal black-tie Gala for a charity beneficiary, this year for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. From its inception through the end of fiscal year 2000, the Foundation has raised more than $300 million for breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment programs. The Le Prix Cristal Film Star Awards, founded in 1995 in France, is the only awards show to select Honorees, in acting, producing and directing, based on their body of work, rather than for a particular film. Previous Honorees include Juliette Binoche, Jodie Foster, Anjelica Huston, Helen Mirren, Jeanne Moreau, Emma Thompson, Agnes Varda, and Kate Winslet, among others. The Awards honor exceptional female talent in the international cinema, as voted by a Jury of film actors and professionals from throughout the world. This Year's Jury is comprised of internationally recognized actors and film industry leaders from five countries. The 2001 Jury President is the daughter of Charlie Chaplin, international actor Geraldine Chaplin. Jury members include actors Edward Laurence Albert, Whoopi Goldberg, Michael Keaton, Julie Newmar and William Shatner, film critic Richard Roeper of "Ebert & Roeper and the Movies", Icelandic director/producer Fridrik Thór Fridrikson ("Dancer in the Dark"), French film executive Patrick de Bokay, London Film Festival Director Adrian Wootton, and more. Celebrities will be honored in the following categories: Best Actress - Comedy, Best Actress-Drama, Rising Star, New Discovery, Artistic Award (Director or Producer), Career Achievement and International Actress. Additionally, a Humanitarian of the Year will be honored, as were the Royal Family of Monaco for the Princess Grace Foundation, Tony Curtis and Paul Newman in previous years. Award Nominees will be announced in April. This black-tie Gala and benefit is under the Haut Patronage of the Consul General of France in Los Angeles, the Honorable Josseline de Clausade. As Madame de Clausade states "The choice to hold this important event in Los Angeles for the first time is significant. It is a unique occasion to promote artists within the Hollywood professional community" she continues "and to stimulate discussions with American talent and producers." The touch of French elegance is carried through the Gala theme in the Arc de Triomphe stage sets, the French Grey Goose Vodka Ice Bar, the Post-Awards Gala gourmet menu and the French Art Deco Gala décor. A new award at the Gala this year is Best Original Movie Song, to be selected by popular vote via the Internet from a list of nominated songs by a popular vote. All nominated songs were selected from hit films theatrically released in 2000, and are original songs written by ASCAP members. The list was compiled by ASCAP's Film and Television Music Department.
