International Film Star Awards & Benefit Gala for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
Sunday, April 29, 2001
Darryl F. Zanuck Theatre
20th Century Fox Film Studios
Los Angeles, California USA

The Le Prix Cristal Gala is the only film awards ceremony to honor exceptional film stars for their body of work, rather than for a single film. Leading industry professionals on the Jury, led by international actress Geraldine Chaplin this year, select the Honorees, and their colleagues present the awards to the winners on stage. In additional to the Le Prix Cristal's traditional awards honoring international cinematic talent and the Humanitarian of the Year, the Gala has added a new award for "Favorite Original Movie Song" chosen by popular vote. The Gala is a fund-raiser for a different charity each year -- this year's beneficiary is the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

The 5th Annual Le Prix Cristal Film Star Awards & Gala events include:
* Red Carpet Entry of Celebrities - Media Opportunities
* Film Star Awards Ceremony in the Zanuck Theatre
* Grey Goose Vodka Martini Tasting
* VIP Grey Goose Vodka "Ice Bar" (requires VIP ticket)
* VIP Gourmet Dinner (requires VIP ticket)
* Musical Extravaganza (requires VIP ticket)

About the Beneficiary

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died of breast cancer at the age of 36. From its inception through the end of fiscal year 2000, the Foundation has raised more than $300 million for breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment programs. The Foundation has more than 70,000 volunteers working through a network of U.S. and international Affiliates and Komen Race for the CureŽ events to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment.

The Foundation runs one of the most innovative, responsive grant programs in breast cancer today, having awarded more than $19 million in research grants last year alone. In addition to funding research, the Foundation and its Affiliates fund non-duplicative, community-based breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment projects for the medically underserved.

About the Founder

In 1986 Ms. Brinker was appointed by President Reagan to serve on the National Cancer Advisory Board, and was one of only six laypersons on the 180-member committee. In 1991, President George Bush appointed her to the three-member Presidents' Cancer panel to monitor and interpret the progress of the National Cancer Program to the President and the public. In 1992, she was named by Vice President Quayle as chair of a subcommittee to study the progress of breast cancer research and education in the United States and around the world. Ms. Brinker currently serves on the boards of Manpower, Inc., U.S. Oncology and the Harvard Center for Cancer Prevention Advisory Board, among others. She is the recipient of the 2001 Champions of Excellence Award presented by the Centers for Disease Control, the 2000 Cino del Duca Award, and was named as one of Ladies' Home Journal's 100 Most Important Women of the 20th Century.
