A
modest hit in last
year's depressed Hong
Kong market, this
comedy-thriller from
Wilson Yip (previously
best known for the
ghost story 01.00
am and the
gay triad drama Mongkok
Story) offers
a new spin on the
stake-out formula.
Two
cops, the jumpy but
basically solid Mike
Lai (Francis Ng) and
the young, lazy Brian
Leung (Louis Koo),
commandeer an old
woman's apartment
in a high-rise block
to watch a man in
the apartment opposite
who may or may not
provide a lead to
a gang of murderous
bank robbers.
But
no sooner have they
managed to rule him
out of their enquiries
than the killers turn
up on their doorstep.
Yip
saves the bullets
of the title for his
set-piece climaxes
and gives most of
the running time to
the comic banter between
the cops and their
reluctant host and
their respective attempts
to date girls they've
met in the line of
duty.
