Homage 1999 honored Shirley MacLaine with the Golden Bear for Lifetime Achievement. The ceremonies took place the evening of February 18th at the Zoo-Palast Theatre together with a special Festival showing of Being There. She previously won the Silver Berlin Bear for Best Actress in 1959 for "Ask Any Girl" and in 1971 for "Desperate Characters." The fan frenzy surrounding the presence of Shirley MacLaine in Berlin compounded with the general security problems and caused fears for the safety of the superstar. This notwithstanding, MacLaine managed to get out shopping to the Ka De We on Wednesday as well as fit in a visit to the Claudio Abbado concert at the Berlin Philharmonie. " Shirley MacLaine emmbraced her cuddly Golden Bear at the Zoo Palast on Thursday, and was seen cuddling fest director Moritz de Hadeln at her sparkling press conference. MacLaine was due only to stay five minutes at the official screening of Being There, but surprised her fans by staying for the whole thing. The indefatigable MacLaine finally left for Madrid and then on to Moscow. Sayonara Shirley! |
