Ominously titled "The Law of the Cinema" opens its doors Friday morning for a full day's session looking at various aspects of contracts and censorship in the audio-visual industries. Put together by CentreBar, an affiliation of London-based barristers engaged in the field of entertainment law, the first session kicks off at 10.30am in the Hotel Palace.

The conference which covers such aspects as contracts and censorship is chaired by Gerard Bigle, avocat a la Cour de Paris, while speakers include Anthony Martino, Arnold Vahrenwald and Keith Northrop contributing.

Leos Carax's follow-up to 1991's Les amants de pont neuf rolls in Paris next month for Arena Films.

Pesery will produce the as-yet-untitled love story, which stars Katerina Golubeva (Few of Us) and Guy Depardieu, as on-screen siblings. Sharunas Bartas, Golubeva's partner and director, makes a cameo apearance.

Carax, returning the favour, appears in the Lithuanian director's new film, The House - now shooting for Paulo Branco's Madragoa Filmes.

Arena is also co-producing Alain Resnais' new film, On connait la chanson (The Same Old Song), with the UK's Greenpoint Films. Now shooting in and around Paris, it is being produced by Bruno Pesery and co-produced by Michel Seydoux and Greenpoint's Simon Ralph.

US cable channels TNT and TBS are believed to be close to signing a network-bypassing output deal for a small film package that includes Evita, The English Patient and Shine.

Eurimages has announced a slate of support to 14 European co-productions. FFr26.6 million was handed out to Francesco Archibugi's Il Vento, Ildiko Enyedi's Simon Magus, Cathal Black's Lynchehaun, Fredi Murer's Ultimatum, Jacob Gronlykke's Lysets Hjerte, Missing Link by Ger Poppelaars, Manuela Viegas' Playing With Axes, Per Ahlin's Hundhotellet, Nikita Mikhalkov's The Barber of Siberia, Yesim Ustaoglu's Journey To The Sun and Philippe de Broca's Le Bossu, and three documentaries.

Support was also given to various distributors including Budapest Film (Hungary), JMH Distribution, Xenix Filmdistribution (Switzerland), DMD Ltd and Alexandra Films (Bulgaria).
