MOTELx - Lisbon International Horror Film Festival

MOTELx is a yearly festival that selects the best horror films produced all around the world in the last couple of years, and aims to stimulate the production of national genre films. In 2011, MOTELx joined the European Fantastic Film Festival Federation (EFFFF) as an adherent member.

In its fifth edition, in 2011, MOTELx had a record number of 13,100 people in attendance during the five days of the festival, screening 62 films from 20 different countries. The guest of honour was Eli Roth, who presented a very successful retrospective of his films. Previous guests included Mick Garris, John Landis, Stuart Gordon and George A. Romero.

Festival's main sections:

ROOM SERVICE - Recent horror films from around the world;

MOTELx AWARD - BEST PORTUGUESE HORROR SHORT FILM - The only competitive section;

LOST ROOM - A journey into the history of Portuguese genre film;

DOC HORROR - Documentaries about horror films or related themes;

INTERNATIONAL SHORTS - Short films not produced in Portugal;

BIG BAD WOLF - Special programme for younger audiences.


The festival encourages and will consider other cinematic proposals outside the scope of these sections, for eventual retrospectives or special screenings.

MOTELx will present, for the fourth time, the MOTELx Award for Best Portuguese Horror Short Film. The award is open to Portuguese productions as well as co-productions with foreign countries. The winner will receive €3,000 and the Short Film Méliès d'Argent, selecting it as a candidate for the annual Méliès d'Or award for Best European Short Film handed out by the European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation (EFFFF).

MOTELx – Lisbon International Horror Film Festival is a non competitive festival which aims to introduce to Portugal the very best of Horror Film from all over the world, in all its diversity: from big budget films to independents, from classic to experimental, from cult to new tendencies. The main objectives of the event are:

> To put Lisbon on the map of the circuit of international festival dedicated to Horror Film;
> To promote the visit of international guests to introduce their works, to present master classes and/or workshops, with the intent of increasing the interaction between the audiences and the creators;
> To stimulate the national production of genre films, presenting not only their creative ans aesthetical richness, but also their viability, economical and production-wise.

The Festival is organized by CTLX – Lisbon Horror Film Club, a non-profit cultural organization, in partnership with several public and private entities, as Lisbon's City Hall, EGEAC, Lisbon's Tourism Association, Cinemateca Portuguesa – Film Museum, Multipessoal, Rádio Radar, amongst others.

It will take place at Cinema São Jorge once again during the Summer rentrée, between the 3rd and the 7th of September.
