Who are we ?

The festival Les Instants Vidéo (international video art and multimedia festival) wants to be a space/time where destinies come across each other, where new cartographies of creation can be woven, where new lines can be opened in direction to new comets...

Les Instants Vidéo Numériques et poétiques is a non-profit art organisation (association law 1901). It inherited from the Festival founded in 1988 in Manosque (Department of Alpes de Haute Provence). Since 2004, it is based in Marseille and cultivates nomadism. We are always looking for the encounters of publics and artists that we like to name the electronic poets.

What we aim to

Support and promote video art and multimedia creation
→ with the multiplication of number of screenings all the year long, in France and abroad,
→ with the diversification of the places/spaces where we present our programs (cinemas, galleries, universities, schools of arts, prisons, theatres, museums, social centres, schools, media libraries....) and with a deep complicity of our partners,
→ with publishing (the magazines BREF, 24 Images, artists biographies...),
→ with the organisation of theoretical and practical training,
→ with forging the mobility and the fellowship/connection of the works of art and the artists,
→ with the development of audiences, awared, interested, critical and lively.

Favorise the encounters audiences-works of art-artists, as an invitation to see and think the world, to cross the glances, sharing knowledge, experiences, understanding, imagination of the other, of elsewhere.

What we do

All the year long, we are making stops in France and abroad, to lead the following activities:
→ the festival Les Instants Vidéo nomad, every year in autumn (in 2010, it was 7 countries, 14 towns, 32 different spaces, 512 works of art coming from 48 countries, and more than 50 artists invited),
→ workshops of awareness and of creation, as laboratories of experimentation, inspiration and education,
→ conferences about the history of video art and about the international creation,
international screenings that we always accompany and which are written as poems,
→ development of methods of preservation, archiving and dissemination of multimedia arts ( 4616 referenced works of arts by more than 2500 artists),
→ (inter)national cooperations shaped like a constellation, in which the artistic creation is approach as an essential component of the society, dealing with social, political and cultural issues.

We are preparing the 27th edition of the Festival Les Instants Video

Les Instants Vidéo is an event dedicated to electronic poetry with its multiple forms, monobands, installations, performances, multimedia...

It is all together a festival and a laboratory where international renowned artists and works of arts can meet with works that are more fragile, still in progress, delicates. In order to support real encounters between works of art, artists and spectators, there is no competition and the admission is free.
The event is made of different spaces. The Poetronic Encounters take place in La Friche Belle de Mai in Marseille (in November 2014). Every year, this central part of the event welcome more and more spectators, in a space we try to make as friendly as possible.

And either before and after these dates, we act in concert with our partners to organise the festival stopovers in other spaces in Marseille, the area…and abroad. We name the whole stopovers a poetronic constellation.

Every year, the festival choose a title, but it is not at all a thematic. It is more of a direction, that would express our current concerns.

27th Festival Les Instants Vidéo

Festival
Festival presentation:

The festival Les Instants Vidéo is an event dedicated to media arts (video and digital).

Every year, we present an international selection of video arts, one channel, installations, performances, experimental documentaries, artists’ CD-ROM… and also spaces of time for different forms of encounters.

The title for this year festival (not definitive) is For a free circulation of bodies and desires.

1) More and more walls are built between those who have (nearly) everything and those who have (nearly) nothing. 2) Misogyny and homophobia (even hidden behind with a good conscience) are walls erected between bodies and desires...
