The Tasmanian Breath of Fresh Air BOFA's blog

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The Tasmanian Breath of Fresh Air (BOFA) Film Festival (www.bofa.com.au) is the first major annual film festival to be held in Australia's beautiful island state of Tasmania. It runs over Wednesday 23rd to Sunday 27th November, 2011 (and annually) in Launceston within the fertile Tamar Valley, a region renowned for its beauty and for its fine food and wine.

Producers, directors, writers, industry professionals and film- lovers from all corners of the world will gather to participate in a festival which celebrates:
1.world class features and documentaries
2. digital SLR short films in competition
3. fusion short films in competition
4. the Big Ideas Series of debates on contemporary issues
5. master-classes on writing, producing , acting and the business of film making
6. fun events such as after parties in "fresh" places like a planetarium plus the Festivale of Film (one day food and wine event with food oriented films screenings on an outdoor 10mx10m screen).

DIGITAL SLR SHORT FILM COMPETITION
The 2011 festival invites submissions of Short Films shot on Digital SLR camera of no more than 12 minutes, (in English or subtitled, encompassing humour; sci-fi; drama; documentary ), which have a theme related more specifically to either:
1. New Horizons (fresh perspectives and positive solutions to contemporary themes such as new technology, social issues, indigenous issues, third world issues etc)
2. Food for Thought (food themes ranging from celebration of food to positive perspectives/solutions on food security, treatment of animals etc)

FUSION FILM COMPETITION
A special competition to highlight the most exciting new development in Digital SLR photography.

With digital photographic technologies increasingly allowing photographers to produce fusion productions- moving images combined with stills from the same camera - BOFA, in conjunction with the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP), is offering a special prize for the best fusion production telling a short (< 5 minutes) story without narration or dialogue on BOFA's contemporary themes (see above).

FEATURE FILMS (NOT IN COMPETITION)
The intention is to select only the highest quality films which will draw significant audiences, provide a high quality viewing experience and enhance the themes of the festival.
Film selection will be completed by the end of October 2011.
Feature films will be shown out of competition although there will be an Audience Choice award. Features and documentaries may be offered for consideration, if they fit the themes, by provision of an on-line screener or by making other arrangements with the Artistic Director.
