It is an International Film event that gathers the new cinema trends considered nowadays as vanguard, representing the renovation of an art, “THE CINEMA” that currently is in transformation.Its name (S8), directly refers to the Super 8 cinema format, essence of the Event.This popular format not only has been a direct witness of our most recent past but also the ideal tool with which filmmakers and avant-garde artists produced either their first film works or their most experimental ones.This reconnaissance through the peripheries of the cinema bring us closer to a “New Cinema” taking place between the new technologies, but without leaving behind the traditional ones.The (S8) Mostra de Cinema Periférico, wants to be not only a mean to promote new ways of expression throughout images but also a witness of a cinema under permanent evolution.Therefore, under the programming there will be both, unprecedented retrospectives, specific courses, historical archives checking, national and international Masterclasses, interactive installations…and an Observatory that will work as a workshop and meeting point between artists, artistic managers, distribution companies and cultural contemporary centres.At the same time, we like to highlight the new channels the Super 8 format has found to transform itself into a renewed tool in hands of the new artists when covering their contemporary works, such as performances, installations or video art.(S8) (S8) Mostra de Cinema Periférico, will be held in A Coruña, between the 1rd and 5th June 2011. The main venue will be at the old provincial prison; a historic building that will be temporarily recycled as a cultural space located next to A Torre de Hércules, a declared world wide historical heritage monument.
